Why Should You Take a Firearm Training Class?

Shooting is a great and fun activity for anyone interested in firearms! However, with owning firearms comes responsibility and using a firearm for personal defense requires even greater proficiency and responsibility. Firearm training is taking personal responsibility for your safety and the safety of those close to you. Our selection of classes cover a range of skill levels from beginner to advanced and can help any level of shooter reach their shooting potential.

About Our Training Center

Training with Armory Ranges is a great way to develop or hone your firearm skills. Our training center offers in-depth, informative instruction in our state of the art range facility. Our instructors specialize in training individuals privately as well as in group classes. Tennessee Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit
Tennessee Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit

For the student to be successful, they should possess basic knowledge of a handgun, and be able to load, unload and safely manipulate the handgun they use in the class. If not consider taking the 3 hour, HANDGUN 101 course, listed on our website.

This course is an approved handgun safety that meets the standard for applicants to be able to apply for an Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit through the State of Tennessee. Successful completion of this course is one of the requirements to obtain a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit.

Students are not required to own their own handgun. Armory Ranges will furnish a semi-automatic handgun, at no charge, or the student may bring their own handgun.

All of our instructors are State of Tennessee and NRA certified.

Private Training One Hour
Private Training One Hour

One-hour lessons are geared for the shooter who already owns a gun and desires to work on a specific skill or firearm.

 If you are a new shooter or do not own a gun, we highly recommend PRIVATE INSTRUCTION NEW SHOOTER (2 HR) 

Armory Ranges offers many wonderful and useful classes to introduce you to, and educate you to firearms, as well as ways to continue and grow your training. Private Training Two Hour
Private Training Two Hour

Armory Ranges offers many wonderful and useful classes to introduce you to firearms, and ways to continue and grow your training. However, if you are looking to do learn something specific, prefer one on one instruction, or are looking to learn about something you may not see offered in a class, Private training is for you!

Private training will give you the opportunity to do one-on-one training with certified instructors in a relaxed, comfortable environment.

Private training sessions are custom-tailored to your needs. In order to do that effectively, sessions are limited to two (2) persons max. 

The price list on this page is for a one-person private training session with one of our instructors. If you would like to add a second person to the session please indicate their name during the registration process. Please note that there is an additional charge of $70 dollars for the second person to attend.

The course fee covers everything the participant would need for the session, with the exception of ammunition. Since there are so many caliber and possible quantity of rounds used during the session, the participant would need to pay for ammunition used the day of the session.

As with all Armory Ranges courses, the participant is not required to own a firearm and may use one of our range guns for the training. If a participant has their own gun that they would like to work with, our instructors will guide them through that firearm and answer any questions they may have.

Appendix Draw and Presentation Course
Appendix Draw and Presentation Course

Welcome to The Appendix Draw and Presentation Course (ADP).

This course is a 90-minute certification course. After Successful completion of this course, you will be given a certification that will allow the practice drawing from the appendix position at the Nashville Armory.

 This course will briefly review firearms safety, proper handling techniques, the fundamentals of

pistol marksmanship, and then teach you to safely draw a concealed firearm from the Appendix carry

position and present it to the target. After 45-60 minutes of classroom instruction, Shooters will shoot between 25-50 rounds live fire on our state-of-the-art range!

There are no pre-requisites to this course, however, this is NOT a beginner’s course. The focus is the draw stroke from the appendix carry position. We urge newer shooters to first take private training, or Shooter Improvement 1 before this course

Handgun 101: The Semi-Automatic Handgun
Handgun 101: The Semi-Automatic Handgun

This is a semi-automatic handgun specific course. If you are interested in learning how to shoot a revolver, please sign up for: HANDGUN 101: REVOLVERS.

This course teaches students how to load, unload, and fire a semi-automatic handgun in a safe and ergonomic manner. Student are not required to own their own handgun. Armory Ranges will furnish the semi-automatic, at no charge; or the student may bring their own semi-automatic handgun.

 The student will fire 50 rounds during the course. (Course fee does not cover ammunition cost)

This course is an alternative to private instruction and this course will help to ensure the student can be successful when taking a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Class.

Handgun 101: The Revolver
Handgun 101: The Revolver

This course will cover how to safely unload, load and fire the REVOLVER in a safe and ergonomic manner. In addition, the student will be introduced to marksmanship fundamentals, which include, grip, stance, aiming, trigger manipulation, and more.

Shooter Improvement 1
Shooter Improvement 1

This class is designed for the shooter who owns a semi-automatic handgun and wants to improve their shooting. Students will leave the class with some drills and techniques to make their future practice sessions more meaningful and they will begin the process of being able to self-diagnose their errors when shooting. (for example, always shooting low left/right etc).

This class will greatly assist a new handgun owner, (as well as long-time handgun owner) to better understand and execute the four main fundamentals of handgun shooting. An emphasis will be put on using the sights and trigger with high efficiency; as well as utilizing grip and stance for repeatable results in their shooting.

•             Understanding of how to use the sights correctly

 

Students will successfully demonstrate safe gun handling, improve marksmanship, plus gain familiarity with modern techniques of handgun shooting. This course starts with a discussion of basic fundamentals and moves to the range for live-fire drills and practice. This 3-hour class is roughly an hour of discussion and 2 hours of shooting. This class meets in our training center (lower building).

Class sizes are limited to 5 to ensure individual attention while providing a detailed demonstration of each marksmanship fundamentals and drill.

Shooter Improvement 2
Shooter Improvement 2

This course is designed to enhance the shooter's knowledge and build on prior skill sets taught in Defensive Handgun classes and our Shooter Improvement 1 class. Class sizes are limited to 5 to ensure individual attention to each participant. The drills are designed to help the good shooter become a great shooter, as well as help them evaluate their own progress and growth. Precision shooting is a skill that must be practiced, if you have reached a shooting plateau and need help seeing improvement, this is the course for you.

Aiming techniques for precision shooting

Shooting one-handed with support and dominant hand and opposite hand shooting

Defensive Handgun 1

This course teaches you techniques to improve your marksmanship fundamentals, firearm handling,  as well as an introduction to working from the holster. These skills are necessary to effectively use a handgun for self-defense.

Successful completion of this course establishes a firm foundation for the Armory Ranges Defensive Handgun II Course.

Defensive Handgun 2

This course is a progression of the skills taught in Defensive Handgun 1, which is a pre-requisite to taking this course.

Defensive Handgun 2 starts with basic draw-stroke, from a strong side hip holster and will add a concealment garment.

Students will demonstrate safe gun handling, improve their marksmanship, gain familiarity with drills and modern techniques of handgun shooting. Proper skills and techniques will be demonstrated throughout the class.

Defensive Handgun 3

Defensive Handgun 3 builds on the skills taught in Defensive 1 and 2. 

Once students demonstrate safe gun handling, students will shoot different drills and skills to improve their marksmanship. Students will be introduced to alternative perspectives as well. From there, the class will move into shooting defensively; shooting faster and engaging multiple targets. Movement is also part of this class.

Defensive Handgun 4

Defensive Handgun 4 is a continuation of the skills introduced in Defensive 3. The entire 4-hour course is conducted on the upper range.

Once students demonstrate safe gun handling, students will be challenged to improve their marksmanship, while shooting faster and incorporate decision making into their defensive mindset. From there, the class will move into shooting faster, engaging multiple targets, to include moving targets and 3-dimensional targets.

Defensive Handgun Refresh And Reload

Defensive Handgun REFRESH & RELOAD is designed to give students the opportunity to hone the drills and skills taught in the previous defensive classes, and better prepare the student for the Defensive Handgun 4 class. After verifying accuracy and speed, students will then be introduced to multiple targets, time constraints, and some movement. After gaining confidence in shooting with the timer, students will shoot against their peers in timed drills This creates additional pressure and better enable them to perform in varying conditions.

Defensive Handgun DRILLS/SKILLS has an emphasis on time is designed to give students the opportunity to challenge themselves and their skills taught in the previous defensive classes with different courses of fire that have a time (and accuracy) standard. Each COF will be timed and gives the student the opportunity to see where they stack up against the clock.

If you have attended our Defensive Handgun 1 2 and 3 classes and would like an opportunity to go down range and test your skills against a standard, then QUALIFICATIONS is for you!

 

Defensive Handgun QUALIFICATIONS is designed to give students the opportunity to challenge themselves and their skills taught in the previous defensive classes with different standards that have either time and/or accuracy standard. Each COF will be graded and gives the student the opportunity to see where they stack up against a set standard.

Introduction to the AR-15 Rifle
Introduction to the AR-15 Rifle

Whether you have owned an AR-15 for a while or recently purchased one, this class will provide a good introduction to your new rifle.

The course covers the basics of functions, operation, and maintenance.

• How to safely handle and operate an AR-15
• AR-15 nomenclature and cycle of operation
• Correctly load and unload and manipulation of AR-15
• Zeroing the rifle
• Field strip (disassembly) and lubrication

 This class is 3 hours of classroom and 1 hour on the range.

Defensive AR-15 1
Defensive AR-15 1

This course picks up where the Introduction to the AR-15 class ends; helping you become more familiar with operating and manipulating your rifle. It will also help you understand what options/accessories you should (or should not) consider.

TOPICS COVERED:

1.     How to safely handle, operate, load and unload an AR-15.

2.     A detailed discussion of zero, co-witnessing, and non-magnified optics

3.     Sling options and use. Students will get to handle various guns in the classroom set up with different optics and sling options.

4.     Mag carrier options and use

5.     Refinement of the shooting fundamentals for the AR-15 rifle.

6.     Engagement sequence, ready positions, and standard response shooting.

7.     discuss what upgrades and modifications you may want to consider for your AR-15 rifle.

The class includes approximately 2 ½ hours of classroom instruction and 1-1½ hours of shooting.

Defensive AR-15 2

This 4-hour AR-15 class will allow the student to go downrange and learn to shoot their AR-15 more efficiently and will permit the student to shoot and engage multiple targets.

·       Using the rifle with a sling

·       Magazine exchanges

Defensive AR-15 3
Defensive AR-15 3

This 4-hour AR-15 class is a continuation of the Defensive AR series classes here at the armory and picks up where 2 ended with the students shooting downrange for the entire shooting portion. This class will allow the student to manipulate and use their AR-15 more efficiently.

  • Review of safety and handling of the AR-15

  • Ready positions

  • CTE’s

  • Introduction to static alternate positions (optional) Kneeling, Squatting, Sitting 

  • Introduction to moving and turning

  • Shooting multiple targets

The class includes approximately 30 minutes of classroom instruction and 3 hours of shooting. This class meets in the main building.

Defensive Shotgun 1
Defensive Shotgun 1

This course teaches you how to safely use a shotgun as a defensive tool.  The student will learn how to correctly set up a defensive shotgun, and how to safely deploy it.

Topics Include:

·         Shotgun nomenclature, modifications, and accessories

·         How to safely load and unload

·         Proper handling techniques using the shotgun – including how to mitigate recoil

·         Ammunition selection and pattering

This class is 3 hours long and includes time in the classroom and on the range.

Defensive Shotgun 2
Defensive Shotgun 2

This course is a progression of skills taught in Defensive Shotgun 1, which is a prerequisite to taking this course.  Defensive Shotgun 2 focuses on deploying the shotgun in a home defense scenario.

 

Topics Include:

·         Review of safety         

·         Proper shooting technique - including recoil mitigation strategies

·         Staging and deploying the home defense shotgun

·         Mounting the shotgun for defensive use

·         Reloading strategies

This class is 3 hours long and includes time in the classroom and on the range.

Tennessee Armed Guard Certification
Tennessee Armed Guard Certification

A security guard/officer is an individual employed by a contract security company or a proprietary security organization to protect persons and/or property from criminal activities. A security guard who holds an armed guard registration may work an armed or unarmed post and is not required to hold an additional "unarmed" guard registration.

The following information can be found on the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance's website:

All armed security guards must meet the armed guard registration requirements in order to be authorized to carry a firearm.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age for registration as an armed security guard.
  • Be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien.
  • Not have been declared by any court of competent jurisdiction incompetent by reason of mental defect or disease unless a court of competent jurisdiction has since declared the applicant competent;
  • If convicted in any jurisdiction of any of the crimes listed in this subdivision (4), have completed a serving sentence or court-ordered probation at least five (5) years prior to application. Conviction of the following crimes shall disqualify an applicant, subject to the conditions stated in this section:
     (A) Any felony; or
     (B) Any misdemeanor involving:
           (i) Shooting a firearm or other weapon;
           (ii) Shoplifting;
           (iii) Assault and battery or other act of violence against persons or property;
           (iv) Crimes involving the sale, manufacture or distribution of controlled substances, controlled substance analogs, drugs or        narcotics;
           (v) Theft of property; or
           (vi) Theft of services;
  • Not be suffering from habitual drunkenness or narcotics addiction or dependence;
  • Not have any disability that, in the opinion of the commissioner, prevents the applicant from performing the duties of a security guard/officer; and
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Submit three fingerprint cards for processing for a TBI and or FBI criminal history check, or submit electronic fingerprints.
  • Must meet the statutory training requirements.

 

Training Requirements

Training includes an examination covering subjects in which the individual must have training. All candidates must complete a four-hour basic course including one (1) hour each of:

  • Orientation.
  • Legal powers and limitations of a security guard/officer.
  • Emergency procedures.
  • General duties.
  • Any additional training for weapons or other devices that are less than lethal he or she will use.
  • An armed guard must complete eight additional hours in the classroom covering:
  • Legal limitations on the use of a firearm:
    • Handling of a firearm
    • Safety and maintenance of firearms

 

In addition, an armed guard applicant must complete an additional four hours of marksmanship training and achieve a minimum of 70% on any silhouette target course approved by the commissioner.

The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) is a United States federal law, enacted in 2004, that allows two classes of persons - the "qualified law enforcement officer" and the "qualified retired or separated law enforcement officer" - to carry a concealed firearm in any jurisdiction in the United States or United States Territories, regardless of state or local laws, with certain exceptions. If a person meets the criteria, "notwithstanding any provisions of the law of any state or any political subdivision thereof" he or she may carry a concealed firearm in that state or political subdivision.

There may be times when less than lethal force is required when faced with a threat, pepper spray may be just the tool you need!

The Personal Safety (OC/PEPPER) spray class includes a key chain unit of  the NEW GEL type spray and 1 practice spray to use in class (sold in our store for $20)

The class is broken down into 3 parts; First, a discussion of awareness and prevention. The second part will discuss protection, including simple techniques to help protect yourself as well as the proper deployment of OC spray. Last, students will get the opportunity to use inert practice spray to learn the correct use and deployment of OC spray.

Students are NOT sprayed with OC in this class.

Anyone can benefit from taking this class - whether you're a runner, commuter, student, someone who travels for work, retiree, homemaker - this class is for you!

Stop The Bleed: Hemorrhage Control for the responsible citizen

This class will give you the tools and confidence to perform what is necessary during what could be the most stressful event you may ever face. You do not need any medical knowledge to take this course and it will include numerous practical applications from the classroom discussion to challenging scenarios, such as proper application and use of tourniquets.

TOPICS COVERED:

· Why this important to you, give a rundown on response times associated with first responders.

· Brief lesson on the layout of anatomy and physiology of major vessels

· Patient assessment

· Proper types of tourniquets

· Proper application of a tourniquet

· Treating life-threatening hemorrhage where a tourniquet would not work effectively

· Application and scenarios 

Ladies Night
Ladies Night

Ladies Night is held on the Second Tuesday each month.

Each month covers different types of firearms, with a brief introduction of safety and handling procedures, followed by live shooting time. This is designed to be a fun, low-stress environment for women of all experience levels. Female Range Safety Officers will be present to ensure safety.

There is no need to bring a lot of equipment or firearms with you. The Nashville Armory team will provide you with everything that you need for a fun night of the shooting; this includes multiple types of firearms and 30 rounds of ammunition of various calibers for the provided guns.

Participants are welcome to bring their own firearm to practice with during the night. We only ask that the firearm you bring coordinates with the theme of the night:

Handgun night: Shoot semi-autos in .22, 9mm,  .40,  .45 and a revolver in .38 caliber

Rifle night: Shoot rifles in .22,  .223,  .308, shotgun and a machine gun!!!

Shoot and Scoot handgun night: Move and shoot downrange while engaging multiple targets and perform magazine exchanges (shooters can bring their own firearm and holster mag pouch etc., or they can use our rental equipment). Ammunition included in this event is .22 or 9mm only.

WELCOME TO SHOOTER’S ALLEY!

Shooter’s Alley is a reactive, competitive HANDGUN ONLY match.

THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS ON HANDGUN TYPE OR CALIBER.

HOW IT WORKS:

You may have as many rounds as you like (50 rounds per run is recommended), but run time is limited to 20 seconds.

Shooters will begin and remain in a designated static position throughout their entire run; shooters will start in the low ready position.

Shooters will engage 40 different targets, each with varying point values of 10, 20, and 30.  Small specialty targets will be worth 50 points.  5 points will be deducted per hit on any target stands and/or target holders.

Each shooter will have 2 opportunities to shoot the stage, with their best score being recorded. A 3rd round will be offered, with 3 targets of varying sizes at 25 yards. 6 rounds are allowed for the 3rd round. 

A holstered pistol and preloaded magazines are required for competitors to approach the starting position and make their pistol ready.  (3 magazines are recommended, but you may have as many PRE LOADED magazines as you like, the more the better)

Competitors may load and reload from a table or mag pouches on the body.

Shooters will be scheduled in 30-minute blocks.  Only 5 shooters will be allowed in each 30-minute block 2 on the range at a time (1 shooter, 1 on deck). Other Shooters during that time may watch through the windows but will NOT be allowed on the range until their run. 

The shooting stages and target sizes may vary each match.

Come join us on the last Tuesday of every month for a handgun down range shooting and moving event!

If you have ever wanted to draw your gun from a holster and shoot multiple targets and move around while shooting, then this event is for you.

We encourage all skill levels but the shooter is capable of loading, unloading and firing the handgun in a safe manner. The shooter should own a gun (centerfire is recommended) 2 magazines minimum and a holster and mag holder as well as eye and ear protection.

The range is considered COLD so no loaded guns are permitted till it is the time for the shooter to shoot.

the event starts at 6 and FIRST TIME SHOOTERS ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW UP AT 5:45 FOR A NEW SHOOTER BRIEF.

SHOULDER FIRE SHOOT N SCOOT!!

Have a PCC, or an AR-15, and want to shoot it in a shoot and scoot scenario? Well here is your chance. This NEW event at Nashville Armory will allow you to shoot A CENTERFIRE SINGLE PROJECTILE shoulder fire gun of your choice/CALIBER (NO SHOTGUNS!) Such as a 9mm carbine (PCC)  and AR-15 etc, just make sure your ammunition is compliant with the Nashville armory ammo policies (NO STEEL CORE).

We will set up 2-3 SHOOT N SCOOT scenarios for you to shoot and will finish with a standard or CTE (see our Defensive AR-15 classes to learn more!)

FREE INTRO TO SHOTTING A SEMI-AUTOMATIC HANDGUN!

NSSF’s First Shots program has helped ranges across the country to introduce individuals to shooting and firearm safety. Developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and hosted by Nashville Armory, the program provides participants with an introduction to shooting by qualified range instructors that include firearm safety, shooting fundamentals, hands-on instruction and the shooting of 25 rounds. this free event is 21/2 hours and is limited to 20 participants so sign up now!
